Project Cashew Trees

Esengo Foundation planted 200 cashew trees by 2021. This was done primarily to see if the trees were suitable for the Bandundu region. Once the saplings are large enough and grow good fruit, more trees will be planted. The purpose of planting the cashew trees is primarily for establishing a cashew plantation. Once enough cashew trees are planted, the cashews can be exported for the cashew industry. This will lead to many employment opportunities. This will contribute to high unemployment in the region. In addition, planting the cashew trees provides reforestation for the Bandundu region. This has a positive impact on climate change. The traditional way of farming throughout the Congo involves cutting down and burning forests. In this way, farmers obtain new land . This method leads to soil erosion and the loss of the
original vegetation.
